H.E. Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary, BPM (Bar) assumed the charge of Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 22 August 2020. Prior to this Ambassadorial assignment, he retired as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Bangladesh. He served in Bangladesh Police for 35 (thirty-five) years with dignity and competency.
He graduated from the University of Dhaka with Bachelor’s and Masters’ degree in Social Welfare. He also earned his Post Graduate Certificate in “Criminal Justice and Police Management” from the University of Leicester, UK and a Ph.D. on “Combating Terrorism in Bangladesh: Challenges and Prospects” from Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka. In addition, he is a graduate of FBI National Academy, Virginia, USA and attended International Commanders Programme at Police Staff College, Bramshill, the UK and the Crisis Management Program in University of Maryland, the USA. Dr. Patwary left an indelible mark of distinction at Harvard University while in ‘US-South Asia Leader Engagement Program’.
Dr. Patwary served in four United Nations Peacekeeping Missions and was awarded with UN Medal. He was appointed Deputy Police Commissioner (Acting) in United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS). He also served as the Chief of Administration, Missing Persons Unit in United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). His international career also includes the capacity of Chief of Operations in United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) and Station Commander in United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) in Croatia.
His gallantry and bravery in counterterrorism has been shown great admiration with the award of Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) for two times, the highest award of Bangladesh Police. He also achieved IGP’s Exemplary Good Service Badge twice in recognition of his highest professional standard.
Dr. Patwary significantly contributed in collecting, compiling and publishing ‘Secret Documents of Intelligence Branch on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’ which won high acclaim in home and abroad. Furthermore, he contributed to collecting the documents for ‘Karagarer Rojnamcha’, a memoir of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s life in prison.
He was a visiting faculty at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research of University of Dhaka and also conducted ‘Victimology and Restorative Justice’ course at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. Dr. Patwary was a resource person at Bangladesh Police Academy, Police Staff College and BCS Administration Academy.
In his personal life, he is married and blessed with two sons and one daughter
